Privacy policy
The short version: we do not ask you for anything, we do not have accounts, and we cannot identify you.
Who we are
audiobook.co.uk is an independent UK website about audiobooks. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights below, email [email protected].
What we collect
We do not have user accounts, we do not run a contact form, and we do not ask you to submit any personal information. There is nothing on this site for you to fill in.
Two things nonetheless involve data about you:
1. Server logs
Our web server records ordinary access logs — the page requested, the time, your browser user agent, and your IP address. This is standard for any website and is used only to keep the site running securely and to diagnose faults. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — keeping the site available and secure.
2. Affiliate links
When you click a link from this site to Audible, Amazon or another retailer, that retailer may set a cookie recording that you arrived from us, so that we are credited if you go on to sign up or buy. That cookie is set by them, on their site, under their own privacy policy — not by us, and not on this site.
We are told only aggregate totals: how many people signed up or purchased. We are never told who you are, what you bought, or anything else about you.
Amazon's privacy notice and Audible's privacy notice govern what they do with that data, and you should read them if that matters to you.
3. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read, in aggregate. It is configured not to identify individuals, and we do not combine it with any other data. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on, or by blocking analytics in your browser or an extension — the site works exactly the same either way.
Lawful basis: consent where required, and otherwise legitimate interests in understanding which content is useful.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
- We do not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels on this site.
- We do not have a mailing list. If we add one, it will be opt-in, and this page will be updated before it launches.
- Google Analytics sets first-party cookies on this domain (
_gaand_ga_G-EDRMEFF48D, roughly two years) — but only if you agree. They are blocked by default and the banner has to be accepted before any of them is written. Decline and none is set. This page previously said we set no first-party cookies at all; that was wrong while analytics loaded unconditionally, and both the code and this sentence were corrected on 6 September 2026. - We store your cookie choice in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie, so that we do not have to set one in order to record that you declined. It never reaches our server.
- We set no other first-party tracking cookies of our own.
How long we keep things
Server access logs are rotated and deleted on the hosting provider's standard schedule, within a matter of weeks. Our own outbound-click counts — which record only the time, the kind of link and the page it was clicked from, never an IP address or a user agent — are deleted automatically after 90 days. We do not keep any other personal data, because we do not collect any.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, and to data portability. Because we hold no data that identifies you, in practice there is usually nothing for us to retrieve — but ask, and we will tell you honestly what we do and do not have.
If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If we change how the site works — most likely by adding a newsletter or analytics — we will update this page and change the date at the top before the change goes live.
