Discworld audiobooks in order

Novels set on a flat world carried through space on the back of a giant turtle. Discworld is famously not a series you have to start at the beginning: it is several overlapping sub-series sharing a world.

Terry PratchettTerry PratchettNarrated by One lead actor per sub-series in the current recordings — Jon Culshaw for the City Watch, Indira Varma for the Witches and Tiffany Aching, Colin Morgan for Rincewind and the wizards, Sian Clifford for Death, Richard Coyle for Moist von Lipwig — and a different lead on each standalone, with Bill Nighy on the footnotes and, on most of the books, Peter Serafinowicz as Death; A Blink of the Screen is read by Michael Fenton Stevens and Stephen Briggs · 42 books, including a short-story collectionPhoto: Luigi Novi · CC BY 3.0 · cropped, via Wikimedia Commons

Which order should you listen in?

Publication order is listed below, but it is not the usual recommendation. Most listeners start with a sub-series instead — Guards! Guards! for the City Watch, Wyrd Sisters for the Witches, Mort for Death, or Going Postal for Moist von Lipwig. The first two books are the weakest and put a lot of people off entirely. One warning about recordings: almost every Discworld recommendation you will read online names Nigel Planer or Stephen Briggs, who narrated the series for decades. Those readings are no longer sold on Audible UK — the current set is the re-recording released from December 2021, with one lead actor for each sub-series and a different lead on each standalone. Do not go hunting for the old ones. One exception: A Blink of the Screen, a collection of Pratchett's short fiction that Audible files under Discworld, is still sold in its 2012 recording by Michael Fenton Stevens and Stephen Briggs. It is listed at its publication point and is optional.
